After a rabbit friend asked me if their pet bunny could get Coronavirus, I did a bunch of research, including digging through the CDC website.
In June of 2021, the CDC stated that “Recent experimental research shows that many mammals, including cats, dogs, bank voles, ferrets, fruit bats, hamsters, mink, pigs, rabbits, racoon dogs, tree shrews, and white-tailed deer can be infected with the virus.”
However, the CDC does go on to say that “Based on the available information to date, the risk of animals spreading COVID-19 to people is considered to be low.”
Do Your Own Rabbit & Corona-virus Research
We’re all worried about how Covid-19 might affect our pet bunnies and if there is any risk of the virus passing between humans and rabbits.
As far as I can tell, there the risk is quite low, but I’m not a medical professional.
If you want to do your own research about Rabbits & Covid-19, here are three great resources to start with.
COVID-19 Pets and Animals Frequently Asked Questions – Linked directly to the CDC site.
US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention – Linked directly to their Pets & Covid-19 Information.
The World Organization for Animal Health – Linked directly to their Animals & Covid-19 Data.
